I would like to
share 5 different aspects of combat situations. These are the cold hard
truths when it comes to reality based self defense. If you end up in an
altercation outside a bar, or inside your home here are some facts to
follow to stay alive and become a survivor.
Reality based self defense #1 - If your attacker is carrying and
threatening you with a weapon, by all means give him what he wants.
It's pointless to try doing a disarm technique, if you can just give
him your watch or $20 in your pocket. Instead of going up against a guy
with a knife willing and capable of stabbing you.
Self defense tips #2 - The type of combat you see on the big screen in
movies isn't real. Don't go thinking a flying side kick can take
someone out with a knife. I've seen a guy try it and end up nearly dead
bleeding out on the streets infront of the nightclub I worked at. Use
simple basic self defense tips to keep the fight from escalating and
remember, what you see in the movies isn't real!
Reality based self defense #3 - Taking strikes and punches isn't that
bad. Not every single strike your attacker throws at you will land
properly and you will realize it's not that bad. Being able to take and
absorb punishment with active sparring is essential to become a better
fighter. Incorporate sparring with your friends and members of the dojo
you train at to fight better under stress.
Self defense tips #4 - Before you can guarantee yourself you could pull
of crazy combat moves you learned, you need a silent mind. You need to
be able to fight under the stress of punches and kicks coming and
hitting at you. You need to learn how to stay zen calm while fists and
feet are flying at you, so you don't get scared or panic.
Reality based self defense #5 - Unlike the mixed martial arts
tournaments like the UFC, there are no rules on the streets. If you
feel the need to bite your attackers ear, while punching him repeatedly
in the groin with uppercuts. Do it if it works. If that includes using
a karate chop to smash in a bad guys throat do it if it keeps you
alive.
Remember that a lot of fancy martial arts styles and stuff in movies
doesn't work. Avoid those fancy arts with lots of kicks and stuff that
wouldn't work on the street. Follow the tips above and become a better
martial artist! Get the fighting edge with the Army Fighting Secrets
